Hugh McCabe is from Long Island/NYC, NY.
Hugh had a passing interest in martial arts when he was growing up and then later had a college housemate who was a Shotokan student. His interest in karate grew. Hugh later lived in the Eastwood neighborhood of Syracuse, NY and found CNY Karate and found it to be the perfect match for him. Hugh has been training in Karate for 37 years, with 33 years of experience in instructing, and his highest rank achieved is 7th DAN.

Rank of Nanadan – 7th degree Black Belt.

Who or what inspires you?
First, Sensei Labbate inspires me. Sensei’s passion for learning, training, teaching, and sharing motivates and inspires me to train and be my best.
While my parents have passed away, they always inspired me to treat all people with dignity and respect, and to always do my best.
What would you say to someone who is beginner?
“It is important to understand that beginning karate is like being an infant learning to crawl, walk then run, except that it takes longer! So you need to be prepared to embark on a very gratifying life journey that require time, patience, and persistence”.
Anything else you would like to share?
As with most things in life, the more you put in the more you get out. Karate is no different.
